Who wants to have some fun? Saturday March 13th from 6- 9pm, we’ll be opening the shop for tours, showing some classic surf films on the big screen and displaying some of the fascinating artwork of our friend Dug. If you don’t know Dug or his art, this is a great chance to step into his head and see things as only he can. This will be his first public appearance since his newly debuted “The Dug Show” on the Get in the Van website.
Invite your friends. We’ll have some food and drinks on hand, so don’t be late cause it won’t last. We look forward to seeing you then.
Winter in Maine is long and cold but the waves are usually going off. Lets face it, putting on your 6mm suit in your car and then changing out of it on the side of the road is NOT FUN. That’s LIFE IN MAINE. Being a surfer here in Maine and braving the elements also makes you appreciate traveling to warmer climates. For a few hundo and a 3hr flight you can really forget about 7mm boots and lobster claw gloves. Here’s some photos from Super star Snapper Nick LaVecchia and LDS first stringer Natty Graham to make you think maybe its time to head to the Tropics. Trust me you will appreciate it…
There was some great waves this past Thursday and Friday here in Maine. It was a much needed swell after a mid winter flat spell. I love surfing in the winter with all the boys. Back in the day of old heavy and non flexible wetsuits it used to be a survival game. But now with todays warm and super flexible wetsuits surfers are pushing each other and surfing is at a all time level here in the NorthEast.. Here’s a few Pics from Andrew Frost and Nick LaVecchia, and a GO Pro sess from the other day..

I hope everyone’s been getting their fill of waves this holiday season. It’s been non-stop action in the North Atlantic. We even had a couple days of waves with air temps in the 70’s a week ago.
Today was a different story. Winter has arrived. Here’s some glimpses from the past 3 weeks. Don’t forget to check out the LDS Flickr page for more!
I can’t imagine anyone around here is complaining about lack of waves. This Fall has been full of perfect, almost summer-like days with swells showing up every weekend like clockwork. From NE to SE, waves haves been filling in every little corner along the coast. Hope you’ve been out enjoying it. If not, you can enjoy some more photos here. And don’t forget to check out the LDS Flickr page!
There’s been some serious surfing going down lately, and more to come this weekend. Check the gallery for a selection of locals that have been caught shredding over the past month. You may just be in there.
Scotty Drake holds the top spot for wipeout of the year so far. This sequence was shot during Hurricane Bill, late in the afternoon on that big day when the beaches were “closed”. Not only did he charge this unmakeable beast, he held on through the lip, glued to his board until it shattered on impact. Scotty you should be proud!
